Expert Pest Bird Shooting Service
Pest Bird Solutions provides a fully licensed, and professional bird shooting service.
All our bird shooting services are conducted by highly trained marksmen and provides a swift and permanent resolution to bird control problems.
Whilst we have a huge range of non-lethal methods at our disposal such as bird spikes and bird netting, the hardest to tackle infestations sometimes just can’t be handled in this manner.
As a company that prides itself on being able to tackle bird control problems of all kinds, shooting is a valuable tool in our armoury and one we have the skills, expertise, and professionalism to provide.
This service is a last resort for the rare cases where deterrents cannot be used or have proven ineffective. Almost all the bird shooting services we provide are for those dealing with infestations of feral pigeons.
Why do we need to shoot birds?
At Pest Bird Solutions, shooting is not a service we carry out all that often.
The vast majority of wild bird problems we deal with can be resolved by implementing one or more of the highly effective deterrents we have available.
Deterrents are always preferable as they provide a permanent solution, not only removing birds but also ensuring they never return.
However, when a species such as feral pigeons have established a large population in one location, they breed so quickly, that non-lethal methods may not be able to achieve control.
In these situations, the population must be reduced significantly before deterrents can be effective and this is where bird shooting comes in.
How does shooting work?
When we conduct a bird shooting service, discretion and safety are essential.
We can’t go blasting around attics in the middle of a town or city with a shotgun, scaring the life out of all those in neighbouring buildings, for example.
Despite being the weapon of choice for bird control for many years, shotguns are pretty ineffective for the task, not to mention being extremely loud.
The wide spread of the bullets from a shotgun can also so all sorts of damage to the surrounding property, as well as scaring pets such as cats and dogs, and humans nearby who are unaware of what is going on.
There are also even stricter restrictions on the use of shotguns for pest control purposes such as the internal diameter of the gun used, and the fact that night shooting is banned even when using artificial lighting and sighting device, much more hassle for less effective results.
Instead, our expert technicians use air rifles for the task which are far more accurate, quieter, and more discreet.
They are also much more effective in dealing with a high number of birds as the rest of the flock will not be scared off the moment the first shot is fired.
All our bird shooting programmes are designed specifically to be as efficient as possible, letting you take back full control of your home and business from certain species with a minimum of fuss and disruption.
We will conduct a full survey before proceeding with a shooting programme to establish the best approach and ensure that no alternative option is viable. We will also provide you with an accurate and detailed quote of how much the job is expected to cost. This quote is completely no obligation and having a survey completed does not commit you to anything.
Safe and Legal Bird Shooting
As you are probably aware, bird shooting in the UK is strictly regulated, and only highly trained professionals with the relevant licences should ever provide this service.
The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (Chapter 69) states that it is illegal to kill wild birds unless general licences have been obtained.
The shooting of birds without the appropriate licensing, or when there is not deemed to be a threat to public health is strictly illegal and could end up with severe consequences for the perpetrator if deemed to have committed a wildlife crime.
The only other exception to this is the game shooting of game birds and even this is restricted through the Game Act. Grouse shooting, for example, has a very strict open season and closed season restricting when species such as red grouse can be targeted.
The use of an automatic gun of any kind or semi automatic shotguns (holding more than two cartridges) for any purpose is also illegal.
When it comes to pest bird shooting, the only responsible and safe approach is to use the services of a BPCA pest technician who is also a trained marksman.
Our technicians are experts at what they do and if we have surveyed your property and found that shooting is required will carry out the service.

All our pest technicians carry IPAF and PASMA certifications, verifying their ability to work at heights in a safe manner, giving you peace of mind whilst we work on your site.
